What you should know about COVID-19 and vaccinations if you have high blood pressure

Mar 29, 2021, 07:00 AM

We know that a person with high blood pressure has a greater risk of other serious health problems. These problems can include heart attacks, strokes and many other things. People with high blood pressure might also be more likely to get really sick if they get the coronavirus (COVID-19). That’s why if you have high blood pressure, it’s a good idea to do everything you can to keep it under control.

Keep following your provider’s guidance

It’s very important that you keep doing what your provider asks you to do to manage your high blood pressure. This might include:

Staying on top of these things is even more important while the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Regular visits with your provider can help make sure you’re doing all you can to stay healthier. You can see your provider in person or with a telehealth appointment.

Get the COVID-19 vaccine – even if you’re on medication

If you’re taking medication for high blood pressure, you should still get the COVID-19 vaccine. In fact, it’s very important for people with high blood pressure. The vaccine is safe, and it’s free for Jackson Care Connect members. If you have any questions about getting vaccinated, find more information here or talk with your provider.

The Oregon Health Authority has created a plan to give vaccinations in phases. If you’re not sure when you can get the vaccine, click here for more information.
