Provider updates

CareOregon is implementing an important update to the Behavioral Health Template in the Connect portal to submit requests for Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) services for CareOregon/Health Share, Jackson Care Connect, and Columbia Pacific CCO members.

What is changing?

Effective August 7, 2026 a new Service Type, ‘ABA Assessment’, was added to the Behavioral Health Template 'service type' drop-down field. Providers submitting ABA authorizations will now select from two authorization types: 

• ABA Assessment
• ABA Applied Behavioral Analysis (this is the treatment service type)

‘ABA Assessment’ should be used for a formal assessment conducted to initiate ABA treatment for a new or returning patient. ‘ABA Applied Behavioral Analysis’ should be used for ongoing treatment services following the completion of the assessment.

ABA Assessment CPT codes are 97151 and 97152.

• Assessment codes are in the ABA Treatment service group as well, in case a provider needs to bill both of these codes throughout treatment

Requests should be submitted through the Connect portal, however, requests may also be submitted via fax if providers cannot access the Connect portal. If you do not have access to the Connect portal and need to submit a request, please contact CareOregon Provider Customer Service at 800-224-4840 (option 3) to request an exception form and to obtain assistance with Connect access. Approved assessment requests are valid for 365 days while treatment authorizations are typically approved for no more than six months.
