OHP Now Covers Me!
Oregon has decided it is important that all children and teens in the state have health care, even those who are not legal residents. That’s why they created OHP Now Covers Me! It provides health care, with no charge, to children and teens under age 19 (including pregnant teens). OHP Now Covers Me! allows members to get health care safely, regardless of immigration status. Jackson Care Connect is excited to partner with OHP to offer health insurance to all kids in Jackson County.
FAQs: OHP Now Covers Me!
Q: What is OHP Now Covers Me?
A: OHP Now Covers Me! is Oregon’s program to get health care insurance—the Oregon Health Plan (OHP)—to all children and teens in the state, regardless of immigration status. It includes physical, dental and behavioral health care. All covered services are free. To learn more about covered services go to http://www.oregon.gov/oha/HSD/OHP/Pages/OHPcoversme.aspx.
Q: Is my personal information safe?
A: State law prohibits the sharing of membership and care data from this state program with federal immigration officials, and CareOregon is committed to this as well.
Q: When does OHP Now Covers Me! start?
A: The Oregon Health Authority started the program Jan. 1, 2018. Beginning March 5, participants will be getting health care through the Coordinated Care Organization (CCO) in their area that administers OHP. CCOs help you get your providers, medications and other health care services.
Q: Who is eligible?
A: All children under the age of 19 (including pregnant moms) who do not have legal residence and live in Oregon households with income level up to and including 305 percent of the Federal Poverty Level ($76,555 per year for a family of four); more if your family is larger. That would be about 17,000 young people in the state.
Q: How can we find out more and sign up for this program?
A: If you have a child who fits the eligibility criteria, you should sign up through the Oregon Health Plan. You can reach it online or by phone: 800‐699‐9075 or 711 for TTY. Families of children who are already enrolled under CAWEM need to call OHP Client Services Unit at 800‐273‐0557. There are community organizations certified to help. You can find them at healthcare.oregon.gov/Pages/find-help.aspxm,
Q: What does OHP Now Covers Me! cover?
A: The program covers the same physical, behavioral, and dental care services as the OHP Plus Medicaid plan. For example, check-ups, dental care, glasses, prescriptions. It also covers lab tests, x-rays and hospital care. It also pays for interpreters at appointments, and rides to and from the doctor’s office and other health-related spots. You can see all the benefits in the Oregon Health Plan Handbook.
You can get the Oregon Health Plan Handbook in other languages, large print, braille or a format you prefer free of charge by contacting Oregon Health Plan Client Services firstname.lastname@example.org, 1-800-273-0557 or 711.
Q: My child has OHP Now Covers Me!, but we don’t have a doctor.
A: The health plan your child has been assigned to can help find a doctor who is accepting new patients. You can ask for one that meets your needs, such as being a pediatrician or family practice provider, being located close to you or having a bilingual staff. If you have Jackson Care Connect as your CCO, you can search for a health care provider on our website.
Q: How can I get help signing up for OHP Now Covers Me!?
A: There are assisters at many nearby clinics who are ready to help you enroll, in both English and Spanish. You can find a list here: http://jacksoncareconnect.org/for-members/ohp-information
Q: Can I participate in Starting Strong?
A: Starting Strong is a program for Jackson Care Connect members, serving pregnant women and children up to their fourth birthday. Starting Strong offers classes, connections to local resources and support groups. It also offers the chance to earn baby products through healthy activities. The Starting Strong store is at 702 W. Main Street in Medford (across from the YMCA). Store hours are Tuesdays, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., and Thursdays 12 – 6 p.m. Our bilingual Health Equity Specialist is in the store to assist on the first Tuesday and third Thursday of each month.
Q: How is OHP Now Covers Me! paid for?
A: It is funded entirely by the state, not by federal Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The benefits are the same as Medicaid, but it’s not a Medicaid plan. Medicaid plans are funded by both the state and federal governments. They are only for legal residents. OHP Now Covers Me! is paid for entirely by the state and can cover all who meet the age and income limits, regardless of immigration status.
